THE
NATIONAL
GALLERY

I went on a trip to the National Gallery & Tate Britain to gather inspiration for my future projects, this is a page documenting things that I think will inspire my work.
This lightbulb sculpture to the left was one of my favourites, It helped me realise the importance of sound, and how it changes the experience of the piece, such as the electric buzz of the lightbulbs, the sound design of the piece.

The Tate Modern was showcasing several films, all in separate dark rooms, using large projectors and punchy sound systems. One film had both a large projection as well as an old projector facing the other way, playing the same film, from a reel of film. Other videos were displayed on old CRT monitors, with headphones connected, the old CRT's have a sort of charm to them, it gives the film that its playing a certain vibe which can compliment certain types of videos nicely, same as vintage film. All the different ways that these films were presented got me thinking about how I'm going to present my videos when they are being examined, as it drastically changes the perception & impact of the film.
All of the galleries had a sense of space that made you appreciate the art, I found that white space was equally important as the detail in the piece itself, it got me thinking about the composition of my work, particularly camera composition, such as the rule of thirds and leading lines, which aim to guide the viewers eye to a certain point of the image, which I think is what the galleries architecture aims to achieve.
& THE
TATE BRITAIN

The rooms displaying the more modern art pieces in the Tate Britain felt quite liminal, they were large with very few pieces.
